How is therapy conducted?

We offer both in-person counselling in Calgary and online throughout Alberta! If you choose online therapy as an option, it will be via a secure and encrypted platform called Jane. You will receive a link to the session 30 minutes prior to your appointment time.

How much is a therapy session in Calgary?

It depends on the credentials of the therapist. The Psychologist's Association of Alberta's recommended fee for Psychologists in Calgary is $220 per 50 minute session.

Why are sessions 50 minutes?

50 minutes is the recommended session time by the Psychologist's Association of Alberta. The 10 minutes left in a 60 minute session is used by your therapist to rebook you, take payment, complete sessions notes, and send any necessary resources to you! Tri Lotus Psychotherapy also offers 75 minute session options if 50 minutes seems like too little time!

I'm new to therapy! What can I expect?

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. Your first therapy session will be about "getting to know you." Your therapist will do some history taking, further explore your current struggles, and you'll create therapy goals. You can share whatever you feel comfortable with.

From then on, therapy will be focused on your therapy goals. You steer therapy, which means that if something comes up between sessions, then we can pivot to talking about that. Your therapist will also come prepared based on your treatment plan to help you meet your therapy goals.
