IN-PERSON IN CALGARY & ONLINE ACROSS ALBERTA

Helping you to spend more time in the present moment to find peace and balance.

We spend 47% of our waking hours thinking about the past or the future when studies suggest that the more time we spend in the present moment, the happier we are.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness-Based Therapy helps people manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges by teaching them to be fully present in the moment.

In simple words, mindfulness is about paying attention to your thoughts, emotions, and surroundings without judgment. It’s a skill you can use in everyday life to respond calmly to challenges instead of reacting impulsively.

A common question is, "What is the difference between mindfulness and meditation?" Mindfulness meditation is a focused practice often used to develop mindfulness, while mindfulness is a state of awareness that you can practice at any time—whether you’re sitting quietly, walking, or even doing everyday tasks. Together, these practices can help create a sense of balance and peace in your life.

How does Mindfulness-Based Therapy Work?

Do you feel like your mind is always racing, caught between worrying about the future and replaying the past? Maybe it’s hard to focus, and stress or overwhelm feels like a constant companion. You might notice you’re reacting to situations on autopilot, instead of responding with calm and clarity. If you’re feeling disconnected, distracted, or like life is just passing you by, mindfulness could help you find balance and a sense of peace.

Experts say that anxiety lives in the future and depression lives in the past; therefore, when mindfulness is practiced, we will naturally experience a reduction in distress.

Mindfulness-based therapy combines mindfulness techniques with tools to detach from unhelpful thought patterns and ones to accept emotions as sensations rather than something to fear. These practices help to release the grip your mind and feelings may have on your behaviour.

Therapy will often consist of various mindfulness exercises used to notice your thoughts and emotions and contact the present moment so that doing so feels more natural outside of session.

Clients typically find that they're able to relax easier and regulate their emotions more effectively after implementing mindfulness into their daily routine.
